three of our non-mozart inclined children are taking lessons with her. before bernie, they were taking the regular old "hot cross buns play the scales" piano lessons--which was paaainful. now they have an arsenal of songs that they just bang out on the piano at will. our neighbors have even stopped by to ask how did they get so good. bryant would like to tell them that it is the gifted musician genes on his side of the family, but i really know it is all bernie. when we moved, the kids begged to continue with bernie so we are now doing piano lessons 1500 miles apart via skype...
bernie is also writing a book about simply music (coming soon to a bookstore near you). she asked me to take a couple of head shots of her for the book. but being the super fly homeschool mom extraordinaire that she is, she did not want them to be boring old head shots. so, we played...
bernie has, on more than one occasion, been a timely encourager to me. when we first started homeschooling and i was reaching for nothing short of perfection every day, bernie was the one who told me "to lower my expectations, tiger." i did and i realized that school time is more pleasant and less stressful when i give my day over to God. and recently, when i was struggling with teaching one of the kids creative writing, bernie reminded me of the importance of making schoolwork enjoyable and coming along side that child instead letting my frustrations get the best of me.
